(230713) -- CHENGDU, July 13, 2023 (Xinhua) -- Excavators clean mud in the Fuhe River in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, Jan. 25, 2018. Jinjiang River traverses the central part of Chengdu, contributing to the fame and glamor of Chengdu's many historic and cultural events. It has two main streams called Fuhe River and Nanhe River. Starting from Dujiangyan, the 150-km river goes outbound from Shuangliu District. In February of 2016, local government of Chengdu implemented ten regulations on water control. In 2017, the city started a program on water ecology management and building a greenway along Jinjiang River. As a result, the water quality of Jinjiang River has been improved a lot. (220630) -- YULI, June 30, 2022 (Xinhua) -- Workers lay grass grids along a new highway traversing the Taklimakan Desert in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, July 13, 2018. Located in south Xinjiang's Bayingolin Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, the highway, connecting Yuli County and Qiemo County, was put into operation on Thursday. The highway is the third one across the Taklimakan Desert, the world's second-largest shifting-sand desert. With a designed speed of 60 or 80 km per hour for different sections, the highway has a total length of 334 km, with 307 km passing through the desert. So far, China has more than 1,200 km of highways across the Taklimakan Desert. The highway has been built with an estimated total investment of about 1.75 billion yuan (about 261.5 million U.S. dollars) and its construction started in October 2017. (Xinhua/Hu Huhu)

Tokyo, Japan, -July 6: Kyodo News helicopter shows a Tokyo detention center on July 6, 2018, where Shoko Asahara, whose real name is Chizuo Matsumoto, was hanged the same day for masterminding the 1995 sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system and other acts that resulted in the deaths of 29 people. AUM Shinrikyo cult founder Shoko Asahara, who was convicted of numerous murders including the 1995 sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system, was executed Friday along with several followers, sources close to the matter said. Asahara, 63, whose real name was Chizuo Matsumoto, was sentenced to death for masterminding the subway attack and other acts that resulted in the deaths of 29 people. He was among 13 people placed on death row in connection with the string of crimes perpetrated by the doomsday cult.
